I have posted the same questions elsewhere but did not receive any replies.
I found relevant discussion in the old thread and am hoping that somebody in this forum can help us.

I just got married to a US citizen and applied for my GC. However, after filing the application, I traveled to Mexico for a conference without knowing that leaving the country while the adjustment of status application is pending will abandon my green card application. I had no problem when I re-entered the US with my J-1 visa.
My husband and I emailed to an attoney (we can't afford an attorney, but he is someone we know and is kind enough to give us quick email correspondences), and he recommended to start it over. So we decided to do so, but we just wanted to do it right this time.
We have several questions:
(1) Do we need to cancel all of our applications (I-130, I-485, I-131, I-795)? They were submitted concurrently. Would only I-485 (and associated I-131 and I-795) be considered to be abandoned? Is I-130 still alive?
(2) What is the best way to cancel my GC appliaction? A letter to National Customer Serivce Center? InfoPass? Call to their 800 number?
(3) Do I need to explain in details about what happened when I cancel the application?
(4) Can we send a new application now? After sending the cencellation letter? After we receive some kind of confirmation letter of cancelling from USCIS?
I'd appreciate any suggestions or comments. Thanks in advance.
