Hi everyone.

I need ur expert advice on a life decision I am about to make.

I am thinking of marrying an H1 Visa holder (not a doctor) in California. I am from India .

I assume that I will be comming to usa on H4. What are my options?
-Can I come on H1?
-should I clear USMLE (how many parts) before coming to USA
-Can I join residency in US on H4, or do I have to convert it to H1?
-What is the best way of going about it?
-Do I need a California lisence to practice/do residency
-Please post ur similar experiances
-how much time it takes from day 1 till i will be able to join residency.
I mean, how long will I have to stay at home?

any girls out there who went through same exp. pl. respond.

Thanks a lot

1. You can come on a H-1 only if you are sponsored by a University program. For this to happen, you have to have an offer for a residency position.
2.You can appear for all of your USMLE exams after coming to US.
3.You can join residency on either H1, J1, GreenCard, Employment authorization card (EAD).
4.Appear for the USMLE exams apply for residency positions, interview and if selected get a H1 sponsorship or J1. For Green card your husband\'s employer can sponsor him and you can join him on the application asa dependent (It takes 2-4years to get GC).
5.Don\'t know much about california, but have heard is hard to get there.
6.It took my wife 2.5yrs to get into residency. Here situation is exactly the same as yours.

Good luck!!!.

Usmle on H4

Hi se ru

i read your reply regarding the visa and usmle. I have a question.

can my spouse come here and write usmle exams here while on H4 visa.

She would get her GC in another 1 yr. which will take care of her residency.

your reply will be appreciated.

Thanks
