Sorry for posting this in wrong place. I have following questions regarding L-1B visa. One of my cousin is on L-1B visa.

1) Is she allowed to work at client place as a consultant with L-1B visa?

2) Is she supposed to pay taxes (federal and state)?? Because her company is paying some fixed amount as expenses and not paying any taxes even though she is working as a consultant?

3) Is there site where she can find more info L-1B visa regulations?

After the WAL-MART thing happened last week she is afraid that she might be in trouble because of her employer (not paying taxes and working as a consultant).

Please help me with your valuable suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

sairam4599,

One of my friends used to work for a US company on L1. He is from India. From my talk with him a year ago, here are some answers. I hope the somone else clarifies these more.

1) Is she allowed to work at client place as a consultant with L-1B visa?
- Yes, she can physically be present in the client's office and work. At least, my friend did that.

2) Is she supposed to pay taxes (federal and state)?? Because her company is paying some fixed amount as expenses and not paying any taxes even though she is working as a consultant?
- The consulting company (say from India) is responsible for paying all the taxes for her. But it is her responsibility to ask her employer if they did. My friend's company didn't file it till August. After he reminded them, they filed it with some late payment penalty (which they said they would deduct from his paycheck). After they filed the taxes, he got a copy of the 1040 forms for his records.

Hope this helps.
