Help needed on H1 -> H4 -> H1

Hello

My wife's company failed to file for PERM on time and her H1B, 6 years is expiring on SEP 30 2024. We are left with no other option than to change the status to H4 (EAD).

Here is my question, my wife's employer said that they will continue to file for her PERM, eventhough she will be out of work for sometime, but once we secure the PERM & I140, can we use the remaining days on H1B (just 14 days) to file for H1B extension ?

or should she be out of country for 1 year before they can file for her H1B, once I140 is approved ?
