Hi everyone,
As everyone else, I've been reading this forum for quite a while, but never posted anything because I found all my answers on the threads that were already here.
But, right now I'm kind of confused and was wondering few things.
Anyway, I do have a lawyer, I asked him these questions and many more. To make the story short, if it wasn't too late to make a change, I would do it in a heartbeat!
I applied for political asylum in late 2008. I was denied by IO and IJ, but got SSN and work permit. This makes life much easier
My lawyer is going to file an appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals in about 10 days.
What should I expect? I think I'll have to remind him to do so... He mentioned that the Board takes quite a long time to make a decision, anywhere from 9 months to 4 years.
I wanted to hear somebody who was/is in the same situation. Here are my questions:
1. What can I expect from this appeal, in the terms of timeline? Is it really true that it takes years to receive a decision?
2. What if I get denied? Will I be deported?
3. While waiting, will I be able to renew my work permit annually?
That would be it for now. I appreciate everyone's time and help! Thanks!
Tomas
