Help: Lost file#

I wonder whether any guru on this forum can provide a solution
to help my friend be out of the following predicament:

she applied the Canadian PR in Feb, 2002 and got AOR in the
May of 2002. However, she misplaced her application file#
and could not find it anymore. Even worse, she has recently
moved to a new apartment and the mailing address is then
changed.

Now, it seems lots of people getting AOR in May 2002 have gotten
their initial assessment. My friend is kind of worried about her
application status.

Please, any guru on this list, give her a suggestion.

Thank you a million!

Did she try calling them? With her first and last name, DOB and other vital info like previous address and location she filed her application from, she might be able to track it down with some customer service from CIC.

Thank you for your reply!
But, do you know the number to call? I remember that the CIC
has disconnected all status verification phone# since last March.

f,

i didn't know that. i assume that leaves her with the option of writing to them personally? but since it's a far fetched and lengthy process, how about giving a shot first at the CIC center? she can call either toronto or vancouver CIC center and ask them what her procedure she needs to adopt. Or atleast get some relevant phone numbers from them. here are the CIC numbers, TO is (416) 973-4444 and Vancouver (604) 666-2171.

if the calls to CIC directly lead to nothing, she can try getting in touch with a canadian attorney perhaps? please let us know what happens.

Will ask my friend to give it a try and then post whatever she
gets later.

I am assuming she applied in Buffalo. Ask your friend to send a fax to Buffalo at (716) 852-2477 or (716) 858 9591 explaining her problem with the updated home address.

Ask her to give as much information as possible like:

Full Name
Date of Birth
Passport Number
Telephone Number
Previous address

You may not receive a response immediately, but they always look at the fax. Even if you call the local call centre, they may not be able to help you because they don't have access to the files outside the country.

Hope this helps.
