I am a resident alien and have been for about 25 years now. I have just been married for a year now. My wife and I have been together for 8 years and things are great. Her sister is getting married on a cruise ship next year and I will be needing a passport to get to and from some of the islands. She is a US citizen. I need to know what I need to do to become a citizen. Do I just need to take the citizenship test or is there something else I need to do. Please help as I am exhausted from trying to find resources on the web and have come up with nothing.

don't you have a passport from your home country?

you said "she is a US citizen". who is she? your wife? or your wife's sister?

1) go to www.uscis.gov, download the instruction, and forms for n-400
2) file the application
3) send the application, requirement documents, fees, photo
4) wait....
5) get your fp notice... take finger print
6) wait for your interview notice
7) wait for name check if your name check is pending and not be cleared at the time of interview
8) wait for oath letter
9) attend oath
10) apply passport

are you sure you really tried to search for answers. it seem likes there have so much information on this website and i could not believe you could come up nothing.

here is a sticky post which you cannot miss it

btw, if you act now, and if you are lucky, depending on where your DO (where u live), u might be able to get thru eveyrthing, if no name check pending issue, within 6 months. u would be on thin ice to get passport within 1 year before your future sis-in-law's marriage

good luck.
