Help: Dropping of CV/Résumé on visitor visa - Allowed?

Hi!

I am reposting this for a friend:

Is a visitor to the USA allowed e.g. to drop off their résumé/CV off at the headhunters, or even at a company while visiting the US on a B1/B2 visa? Of course, without any intention to stay on on a continuous basis while on the visitor visa and returning before the I-94 expires?

Or would this be a violation of the non-immigrant assumption? One of my friends did this way back in 2003 and is worried now that he may have violated the law albeit he has visited twice since then.

Considering his mental anguish, any advice, particularly a substantiated one by somebody deeply aware of this would be really appreciated.

Interestingly, it would be great to understand in detail what activities (or examples thereof) are allowed versus what are not allowed while on a visitor visa.

With best regards.

Simple

The intent for that specific trip must match the designation of the visa used for entry. If he dropped a resume off in hopes of coming to work and earn money on future trips using the proper documents required for that work, that's fine. If he entered on the visitor's visa with the intent of obtaining work and derriving income from a US based source while spending the majority of his time residing inside the country, that is a problem.

OF course, in the future if his bags get searched randomly and they spot a resume in there he may get questioned for awhile but if he tells the truth and he's not here to do anything against the law he's fine.
