Help! Can't read my receipt number - NEW UPDATE

Hi guys, I'm hoping one of you can help me out. My husband and I recently filed our I-751 to remove conditions of residence, but have yet to receive our receipt notice. We filed on March 30th and the check was cashed on April 3rd. It's been two full weeks now since the check was cashed, and based on others' experiences it seems like we should have received it by now.

I remember reading that they write the receipt number on the check. I pulled the image from my bank and the number is there. The problem is some of the numbers are not legible, and I've literally tried almost every combination I can think with no luck. I read from somewhere that the first 2 number represent the fiscal year, so it's "09". But I am not sure the rest of them. If anyone happen to file I-751 to Vermont center around the same time, would you mind share your receipt number with me? It might help me guess what mine is.

Much appreciated!!!

You should have received your receipt by now...Did you change your address?

I looked at the doc and my best guess is : EAC 09 15 3000 55

I changed my address online (AR-11) with Immigration last year (April 2008). But the letter they sent to remind you to file I-751 was sent to the wrong address in Feb. this year. So I got worried and filed AR-11 again online in March, before I filed my I-751.

I called USCIS and the lady told me that I am not suppose to be able to track the number on the check. It's just a number for "marriage fraud system" or something like that, and I won't be able to check my case online until the biometrics. That is somewhat good news, at least I don't have to kill myself over those stupid numbers anymore.

But then I gave her both of my AR-11 confirmation number and she said neither one is showing up in the system, which means USCIS still has my old address on file? So does anyone know which address they use to sent receipt? The one they have on file or whatever is used in your application? I am so worried now. :(

She said she can't do anything about my receipt until it's been after 30 days. But the thing is I am scheduled to travel out of the country soon (7 days after the "30 days"), and won't be back until my GC is expired. So I really need the extention paper before I go. What should I do now? Would schedule a InfoPass appointment help any?

File an INFOPASS and ask an AO (Adjudications Officer) or an IO (Information Officer) at the USCIS office.- :)

Thank you for the pointer rick92. What do I need to bring to the InfoPass appointment? Can a IO stamp my passport or print me another extention letter thingy?

When you file the AR-11 form it also has an option to change your address on any of your pending applications.
Did you submit that?
Remember the default AR-11 only updates your address in the master profile....any pending application takes the address on your application...in order to change that you need to change the address on the pending applications also...

Call the 1-800 number and take the infopass...perferably go to your nearest DO and inquire....
Also...if possible go to your old address and try to retrieve the receipt....

Hi there,

So glad that I found this...I'm exactly in the same boat with you! I submitted my I-751 documents on March 16th to the Vermont Service Center. For some reasons, USCIS didn't receive it until March 30. They cashed the check on April 1st. And until this day, April 21, I haven't received the receipt notice either.

I was able to get the check image just like you and that number on the check was indeed the number they have on the system : EAC09018300550...yours is probably almost the same except for some number changes here and there....

Weird thing is I changed my address just like you did too! By filling out AR11 form online of course...

Anyway, long story short, I called USCIS 1-800 number twice yesterday and today. I received two kinda different answers:

1) Yesterday: the lady said that they had already received my application and generated the receipt number, but in the system didn't really say that they sent the notice already...she advised me to wait until the end of this month and if still don't receive, make Infopass appointment to get passport stamped...She verified my address was the newly updated one....

2) Today: another lady said that on April 1st, the same day they cashed the check, they also sent out the notice to my address having on the system...and yet since it never gets returned back to them, there might be a chance that it's lost in the mails...so, she told me to make Infopass appointment asap...

I think eventually, I just have to go to make Infopass appointment and get my passport stamp...but i'm more worried about the fact that the letter has been lost...what about biometric appointment letter and stuff like that...what if I'm not gonna be able to receive any of that?

Or maybe, like the first lady said, USCIS, namely the Vermont Service Center, hasn't sent out the notice yet...maybe, some day within this week or early next week, I'm gonna receive it?

So confused...but I'm kinda relieved that somebody here is in the same situation with me...maybe, after all, it's the USCIS messy system....
I still receive other mails to my address fine, e.g. bank statements, bills and stuff...so I don't understand why USCIS mail can be lost like that ...

I was told by an operator over the phone at the USCIS 1800 line a while back that Online change of address form is valid on if you have an application in process????? (dont quote me on this one) She told me that I would need to file a paper copy. So there might be your problem, file it on paper and see if it works. I would make an INFOPASS and see if an officer could confirm the prior change of address. Did the person whom sponsored you also sent in a change of address form (I865)?? If they did they should have received some sort of a confirmation letter in the mail. I dont know if a US citizen would have to file the I865 but we send it in anyways. It wouldnt hurt!!! :)

OMG, Same here! So glad to have found you, can I give you a virtual hug? :p

I changed my address before I filed I-751, and the address I used on my applicaiton is correct. So as far as the receipt goes, if they use the address listed in the application, then it "should" have no problem. But we are talking about USCIS, so anything is possible. :(

dark_lord, how did you get the lady to look up your case? By the number on the back of the check? Were you able to check your case status online by using that number? When I talked to the lady, she said she can't pull anything up by the number I gave her. I used "0915300055", Maybe it's "0918300055"? The image is so blurry, it's really hard for me to see.

To add to the complexity of the situation, my husband and I are actually living aboard currently for work assignment. We scheduled our trip back to US in the next 2 weeks and hoping I can get my receipt and bio appointment done while I am back in US. But it seems like I might have to fly back later just to do finger print again (if I ever get the bio letter that is). But I definitely will need to get a stamp as next time when I travel, my GC is probably expired. Btw, did she tell you what to bring to the local office to get a stamp? Do I just tell them I filed 751 and never got a receipt?

My hope now is that there is just a big delay in sending out receipt right now, since it seems to be the case for both of us. And nothing is really wrong...

Hi there,

So glad that I found this...I'm exactly in the same boat with you! I submitted my I-751 documents on March 16th to the Vermont Service Center. For some reasons, USCIS didn't receive it until March 30. They cashed the check on April 1st. And until this day, April 21, I haven't received the receipt notice either.

...

Actually, when I talked to them, I just provided them with my name, DOB, and A# on my green card. Using those info, they were able to pull out my file...they actually told me the receipt # generated for my application which matched the number on the check I saw earlier...However, she also told me that the number is not used for checking status online...I don't know, but from what I gather here and there, the biometric letter's number is the one we will use to check online status...

Anyway, I just made my Infopass on Friday May 1st...that will be exactly 01 month since the day they received and cashed the check, and one week before my green card is expired (May 8th)...The USCIS lady only told me to go and get my passport stamped as that would serve as a proof for 01-year extension of the conditional permanent residency. So, I assume we only have to bring our passport since our applications are already in the system? Just to make sure, I probably will bring copy of the form I filed, green card, the USPS delivery confirmation copy, copy image of the cashed check by USCIS, AR-11 confirmation copy to check my address once again....

I'm only worried that what about the biometric letter? If things can happen with the receipt, what can happen with that biometric notice? And if I don't ever get it, there's chance that they will hold up or cancel my application...does that mean now I have to call them check my case on the phone every week? ... This is just so frustrating...

By the way, I believe our applications were received by the same person because I can tell that the hand-writing on the check is essentially the same....

Your last sentence had me rolling! Good to know that the number is not used for tracking now. I actually had a friend write a computer program to try out all the possible numbers (only for the hard to see digits) to check for the online status. And we were so puzzled that none of the combination returned anything. Now it all makes sense now. Hehe...

I called the 800 number again today, and this time I told a little lie saying that it has been 30 days (it's really 24 days) and got transferred to a real USCIS officer. She was able to look up my info and told me TWO EAC numbers. The first one matches the one on the check. The second one is completely different pattern than the first one, and I was able to use it to look up the status online. Now I don't know if the second number is the "receipt number" or the "biometric letter number". From research around, I came to the same understanding that the bio letter number is the actual tracking number online. So in this case, shouldn't I have already received the receipt and the bio notice????? The online status says they have received my case on April 10th, even though they cashed the check on April 1st. Anyways, she did verify that they have my correct address in the system.

So maybe you can call back and see if they have another EAC number for you?

This thing is soooooo frustrating and confusing...:o

By the way, I believe our applications were received by the same person because I can tell that the hand-writing on the check is essentially the same....

@tongtongg: what exactly does the online message say when you used the 2nd number to check? I don't really understand what the deal of why there are so many numbers in the system... Maybe April 10th is the day they actually processed the application? I don't know but I don't want to call them 3 days in a row, so I'd wait until Friday and call them again...lol...My lawyer said that we should allow 30 days since the day they actually received the application (March 31st) to wait for the receipt notice sent...that means the end of the next week...hopefully, one day of this week or maybe next week, we'll get it in the mail...

According to the following, the receipt should already been sent.... hopefully it will arrive soon. Let's keep each other updated since we happen to have the same luck so far... :-)

I called the 1800 number again and got the other number which is supposed to be the biometric letter's number ... and it said when I checked online,

...On April 11, 2009, we received this CRI89 PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice....

So, it's like 1 day after yours, I hope I can receive it today...

tongtongg, when will you card be expired? Mine is expired May 8th...the lady this time said the extension letter is not supposed to be sent until you approach that expiration date...so for my case, maybe in the week of May 8th?

That is the first time i heard about what you said on the timing of the extension letter. But it does make sense. Man... we really need to have a FAQ out there.

My GC expires at the end of June, I filed my I-751 exactely 90 days before it.

I made a INFOPASS for May 4th to get a stamp since i will be traveling on 9th. And i really really hope that they will let me do the fingerprint then. My appointment is on 15th, and i really don't want to travel back again or change my flight if i don't have to. Has anyone had any experience with walk-in? What are my chances?

I still haven't got anything from UCSIS yet...this is so frustrating...even though I'm not really in a rush with the biometric appointment, I'm really anxious that why the heck I haven't got anything yet...I seriously don't want to skip school & work to go for an Infopass appointment just asking what's going on on my situation...

tongtongg, can you tell what date, based on the post-office mark on the letter's envelope, that USCIS sent out that biometric notice? I'm trying to figure how long would it take for USCIS from the date they updated the online system to mail out the real notice....Mine is April 11, and yours is April 10...should I have received it waaaaay by now? ...:(
