Can the birth certificate provided by Indian Consulate in SFO, be used for the greencard ? Or does one have to get it from the local government in the city of birth ?
I already have one from the consulate in DC but my lawyer has told that it does not work. It has been refused by the INS in some cases. Confirmed with another lawyer as well.
The consulate issues it based on 'consular records' which is our passport only and no other document, So if that was acceptable to INS then why will they ask for a separate BC ??
