HELP !! - AOS Portability Question

Hello Gurus

I have a question regarding AC21 and the position, Would appreciate any input.

I am planning to switch in a few weeks to my new job. The following are the ETA-750A descriptions of new and old jobs and positions. Do you think this is a risk ??

New Job Duties:

“Work with a world class team to provide enterprise-wide, Oracle Database Administration support for production systems and provide DBA services to application development teams, including database design, database generation, coding, and database production support. Provide DBA support with a high degree of customer service, technical expertise, and timeliness. Provide accurate and creative solutions to user problems of moderate nature to ensure user productivity.

Provide Development and/or Production support. This includes creating primary database storage structures, designing and creating primary objects, modifying database structure as necessary for enhancements or performance, creating documentation, designing interfaces, database objects, and creating plans. Monitor and optimize performance of the database, plan for backup and recovery of the database, and allocate system storage and plan future storage requirements. Create database-related scripts and programs to support development and production environments. Research, evaluate, design, test, recommend, and plan implementation of new or improved RDBMS, ETL and database tools.”


New Job Title:
Applications DBA

Labor Certification Job Duties -- Description copied from ETA-750A (Section 13). The Form 140 contains the same information in Part 6, section 3 (Non technical description of the job)

“Develop Create and Modify computer systems and applications software and specialized utility programs. Analyze and design databases within an application area. Analyze user needs and develop software solutions using enterprise resource planning (ERP) and related software. Work requires extensive travel and frequent relocation.”

Approved Labor Certification Job Title:
Software Engineer

First, I hope you know that there are no guidelines by CIS about "similar jobs" - so all opinions are qualitative.

Having said that, in my opinion your job descriptions look pretty similar, so you should be good. If I could change two things, I would (a) change the first line to emphasize on "create and modify databases..." instead of "support" and (b) insert something about "analyze user needs" which is in the ETA 750 but not in the new job desc.

Your LC job duties seem to fit almost any job on the planet! I havent seen anything so broad! anyway, I dont think you would have a problem using AC21.. but where did you get the new job description ? In my opinion, all that matters is what goes in Empl Verification Letter, an employer can post available jobs ad, but might change his mind to hire someone for something different.. dont just grab the job description from the company website's "Careers" page... Good Luck

I got the new ones from my new manager, he is a techie and has no clue, so just dumped something in an email - The company is huge and they are going to give me an EVL with the exact same duties as mentioned on the LC - I just turned a couple of words around , to make it look slightly different - only difference is the title, which they have countered by putting in the following

"This letter serves to confirm our intention to employ Mr. cantstopme at bigcompany as a full-time, regular employee in the position of Software Engineer. The internal title for this position at our company is Oracle Applications Database Administrator.

the LC duties are pretty much the same as the ONET classification for Software Engineer, Applications - I think my company's lawyers did a pretty good job on that !

I changed it to the following in the letter I will be sending them.

“Develop Create and Modify computer systems and computer applications software. Design databases for specialized applications. Determine user and business needs and develop and maintain software solutions using enterprise resource planning (ERP) and related software. Work requires extensive travel and frequent relocation.”
