[HELP}A typo in name filed of Green Card

Hi:

My mother just received her GC few weeks ago.
However, there is a typo in the name filed of her GC.
The last word of my mom's name should be spelt as "Li",
but the INS office wrongly print it as 'L." on her GC.
We have tried several times to contact the INS office
staff by calling the phone number on the page enclosed
with GC.
Unfortunately, the line seems busy all the time. >_<

What should we do next?
Should we go to the INS office directly?
Is this typo a very important problem?

Thanks.

This is a very common problem. The INS can't even issue cards with the correct names, let alone catch terrorists coming in to the US.

Getting the card replaced is going to be a pain in the butt. I feel sorry for your mother. She will have to go personally in to INS with her card, a filled I-90 form and hand it in personally with 2 recent photographs. The fee is waived because of INS's own mistake. I think there are ways of avoiding her to go. Follow this link for the form and instructions:

Please post your experience. I note that this is your first post. Please don't dissapear after reading this note! The whole point of the board is help everyone.

Thanks for your reply.

Since my mother is not in US now, I think her GC
replacement should not be done soon.
She did not notice that when she received her GC.

By the way, I am wondering if the GC information
correction is very urgent.
Because my mother will stay abroad for few months.

Anyway, I will post
the experiment, when the replacement is done.

One more question.

Could GC replacement be done in abroad INS office?
Any requirements or limitations on such abroad GC
replacement process?

Thanks
