Hello everybody!!

As you can tell I'm new to this board and I'm interested in applying for the DV Lottery.

I'm only 21, finishing uni this June and from Northern Ireland. I got some general ideas what it takes to get a green card through this program if the initial application (from oct to dec 07) is successful, but I would like more info regarding the congrats letter and the usual process afterwards, can any "experienced" ones tell me, please.

Thank you, I'm scared and excited to apply, I know I'm such a dork, lol

Why ever not? LOL There are many words that exist across the pond (North America) that are used all the time over here, however the other way round, probably not, bet you don't know what a "craic" is! :D

Anyway, may someone please tell me what to expect when I do get that congrats letter for example.

Well what’s up, I am a fellow Irish man, from Dublin, I won the DV this year.
So I thought I would give you my experience with the DV, this is only a very brief overview. The hardest part of the whole DV lottery is winning it in the first place. To put it in context, there were 1.2 million EU entrants. And of those 1.2 million there approximately 25000 people selected, so that is about 2% of those that were selected. I have been entering the DV for about 5/6 years and this was the first time I won. Now if you are lucky enough to win, then the next thing you need to hope for is a low case number. You will see from my signature that my CN is over 25k, that means that I am at the back of the que to be interviewed, there may be a strong possibility that even though I have beaten the odds and won I may still not get called for an interview as I have such a high case number, but I am hopeful that I will get called :-) Once you are selected you fill in some vary basic forms about yourself send them back and wait for your interview date. This is determined by your CN. Then you will get about two months notice for your interview so you have time to get supporting documentation (although I have already all the documents that I can have ready now, good to get them early) and a medical. If you pass medical, have all supporting docs and qualify then when your interviewed they should tell you there and then that you have the visa (or not).

US immigration is extremely complicated; the DV which is a component of this complicated system in contrast is fairly straight forward, as far as I can tell.

Anyway I would be glad to answer any questions you might have, post away…….

Well, any details on what supporting documents you need?

So say this upcoming DV for 2009, so I apply as early as possible between oct and dec then when do you usually find out if you won or not? May-July? That's a bit late-ish isn't it?? Then when does the interview take place, like between which set of months? Then last but least, how long do u have to wait before u actually get the green card?

Oh yes one more question, because i'm applying from Northern ireland, would the consulate I go to have to be in london or dublin?

Hi Vegas, yo can check out the following thread. It has a lot of useful info for newcomers.

Thanks islandgirl! :D

That has shed some light however I'm interested in exactly the document requirements, I know police cert and medical is needed and preferably - an I-134, job offer as well as bank account details (I have $6000 would that be enough for one individual?), the latter three I could all get with ease but what else is needed?
