It will probably take around 20 months ( best case ) to 24 months to approve most cases. They will only start processing at regular speed in May and the backlog will keep growing.

Any thoughts ?

No it's not right

Oct cases are being approved now, so its taking about 15 months for them to get GC. As INS would keep on clearing the backlog, this delay would become narrower and narrower and after few month it would be as normal as it was.
Think positive ;)

But don't u think, it is speculative to say 15 months since we don't know how INS would be structured under Homeland security.

Source is an acquaintance who has an attorney with good contacts . It seems they will not process anything ( or very few cases ) in the next few months till things settle down with the restructuring

INS is very un predictable

That may be true. But lawyers love to speculate. The good source of information is from AILA only. I rember when I applied for I-140 I was waiting for a long time. But INS started processing the cases in three lots. Thoses who applied after me got the approval in one month only.

I think its INS is full of surprises. Some Nov and Dec are started getting process now. Let's hope for the best

Unfortunately, the word is not suprise but shock. Oct Nov and Dec will drag on till the middle of this year at least. I still know of some people from the July Aug 01 time frame who have not been approved

It is good to be an optimist, but sometimes false optimism leads to pain later on. Be a realist and plan for that. The reality is that INS is going very slow and will go extremely slow for the next 4-5 months.
