Hi,

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this thread, if not excuse me. I am on H1B visa and I work for a small company and they wont provide anu group health insurance. Right now my wife is pregnant and I couldnt get any health insurance from any of the insurance companies, they are saying this is a pre_existing condition and they couldnt provide one for her maternity coverage.
Are there any ways of getting insurance coverage for her ? does any body experience this kind of situation ? Any ideas, comments are appreciated.

TIA

hi joef,
thanks for your reply! once i joined the present job i applied for Blue cross blue shield of florida health insurance plan. i took the insurance along with the maternity rider for my wife. i took the PPO plan and she took HMO plan. they said that its gonna take 2 months to get the insurance and asked us to stay on their temporary insurance. i got my health insurance in time but they delayed my wifes insurance and mean time she got pregnant. and now they are denying her covereage for maternity as they say it is a preexisting condition for them. so they denied her coverage. we are supposed to get the insurance in time but they delayed it. do u think it is our mistake? her insurance itself costs about 330$ per month. we are ready to pay even more. i dont think this is my fault. i have been in US for 7 years and i was never without insurance. what will anyone do if things like this happen?

give the details of dates of your each insurance (prior insurance, date application filed, date temporary insurance started, regular insurance start date) for both of you, and i will try to find out what can be done.

1. if you took temporary insurance WITH maternity rider >>> followed by regular insurance WITH maternity rider from SAME company WITHOUT ANY GAP in coverage ----- they MUST cover it.

2. if switching to a different company for regular insurance --- they should cover it.

3. if there is GAP between temporay and regular insurance coverage or there was no maternity rider in temporary ins, they may decide whatever they want.

4. ask the BCBS (blue cross blue shield) for a copy of their policy on coverage.

Hmm, quite frankly, giving such details out to some stranger is something I don't recommend. You haven't given any real name, or any indication of your qualification to deal with such a situation.

hey Joef and Alren, i have been following this forum for last 2 years. my domain is *physicians* ;)
