Health card

I would like to know the process to apply for the health insurance card. Is this necessary (I know SIN and PR cards are necessary).

Any idea if this can be done online since I may not be able to go to my province in canada until some time as I am back in US.

Thanks

If you need to apply for a health card, you need to be a resident. You need to show proof of residence. It cannot be done online and is administered provincially. Each province has it's own plan. Check out your province's website for more info. So, if you are landing and leaving for the US, it's not required.

Can I apply for health benefit even though I am returning back to the US within a couple of days? I was told that if you tell them that you are coming back to the US they will not allow you to apply for benefit?

Has anyone applied and then returned back to the US?

I guess in some places it takes 3months for the benefits to kick in so by applying for it now I don't have to wait for my benefits to be active when I eventually move to canada since I am planning to move after 3 months

If I don't do it now then I have to wait additional 3 months for the benefits.

Thanks

Do not apply for Health Benefits if you are not planning to be a resident of canada and not planning to pay taxes in canada.

What are the Consequences if I applied SIN card and have no plan to stay in Canada for next two year afer landing.
Health benefit means applying for SIN card, Is that right ?

SIN card is work , like US SSN
Health card is for health benefits and being a resident of canada.

They are 2 different things

Appying for SIN and leaving is fine but not health benefits

residence

In Ontario, you must be be in the province for 153 of the 183 days following application (as well as being in residence for 153 in any 12 month period) in order to be eligible for OHIP. You will lose eligibility if you apply and then leave for more than 30 days.
