What I gather from all this is (If I understand it right) Indian citizens having Canadian "GC" will need a Visa to travel to the US I do not know if they always needed one. I wonder if we will soon hear that Canada has "reciprocated" the gesture and Indians with a US GC will also need a Visa to visit Niagara Falls (oops I mean Canada
). There goes a fringe benefit I was expecting. I better hurry my trip.

02/02/03: Removal of Visa and Passport Waiver for Certain Permanent Residents of Canada and Bermuda
Effective March 17, 2003, residents of Canada or Bermuda having a common nationality with Canadian nationals or with British subjects in Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport and visa when applying for admission to the United States. Nationals of Ireland and British Commonwealth countries, who reside in Canada, will be affected by this change. The Service is taking this action, revoking the prior passport and visa exemption for these individuals, in conjunction with the Department of State. The residents of Canada and Bermuda listed below will be affected by this rule unless they are also listed as a separate visa waiver program country:
British Commonwealth Countries: Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, , Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Brunei Darussalam, Cameroon, Cyprus, Dominica, Fiji Islands, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Swaziland, The Bahamas, The Gambia, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Kingdom, United Republic of Tanzania, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Visa Waiver Program Countries: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Uruguay. The United Kingdom refers only to British citizens who have the unrestricted right of permanent abode in the United Kingdom (England,
Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man); it does not refer to British overseas citizens, British dependent territories' citizens, or citizens of British Commonwealth countries.
Accordingly, for instance, the Indian landed immigrants in Canada will no longer enjoy the visa and passport waiver privilege.
