My husband got his green card stamp today at the Atlanta District Office. To be honest, I worried more than I needed to. Here is a summary of the interview:
Got to the interview on time with attorney - 1:50...appointment was at 2:00
Officer: This shouldn't take long....you'll be in and out.
Officer: Do you have your passport / I-94? (gave it to him...never asked for my driver's license...or ANY I.D.)
Officer (To Husband): What is your full name?
Officer (To Husband): What is your address?
Officer (To Husband): Let's talk about your arrest
Husband (To Officer): I have a traffic violation, DUI, here is all of the paperwork (ticket and discharge papers)
Officer: Okay
Officer (To Me): What is your full name?
Officer (To Me): What is your birth date?
Officer (To Me): Where were you born? (I am the USC)
Officer: Do you have any bills together?
Me: No, I bought my home before we were married. However, we have all of this. (I handed him a well put together packet...first page had a copy of our Driver's License - same address, Credit cards - same account number, Health Insurance Cards - same policy - he took this page; We had a copy of the auto policy - he took this page; He looked through everything else but didn't spend much time on it - he didn't take anything. We didn't have one joint bill or any joint bank account)
Officer: Do you have your 2004 tax return? (He took it and wrote my salary down)
Guess what that's it! Nothing else to the interview.
Me: You mean you don't want any of this other stuff I brought. Wow I can't believe you don't need this.
Officer: Oh there would be some officers asking for that stuff.
He stamped my husband's passport...done. ZERO questions about our relationship.
Sidenote: My attorney said she was impressed he was running on time....he said that there are a lot of people sent to Atlanta from the Service Centers conducting interviews for the very first time ..then he rolled his eyes...they were running really late.
