having l1 and h1 same time

I have a L1 visa valid till end of this year and I-94 valid till - apr 2006 with current company maxsoft. My future employer is applying for my h1, since I already had H1 in past , they say its going to be a change of status from L1 to h1 and that can been done without waiting for the quota.

My question is , once my h1 is approved with future employer how long can I still work for "maxsoft" my current company ? Can I hold L1 and h1 together.?Say my h1 is valid from 1 May 2005 and I still work for Maxsoft till June 2005. Will this be legally. Will have any problem in future for my GC / stamping ?

Please suggest.

You can only be in one status, so on the start date of the H1b you will lose your L1 status and hence you are not allowed to work for the L1 employer any more.
