Hi,
I was fine with the whole idea of getting H-4 for my wife but after constant disbelieve from her side, I started to doubt this process as well. So here is my situation.

Quick summary:
- I'm on my first H-1 till Sept 2004
- Getting married in Jan 2003 back in home country
- Wife has never applied for any US visa (clean record)
- I will have full documentation supporting my status from the employer and letter to US consul

Questions:
1. Is it hard to obtain H-4 for her? (She is so scared that we might be separated for months or years. Ok, so am I :-)
2. If we get married on Monday, can we go to US Consulate on Tuesday and apply for H-4? (I will be in Europe only for just a few days) Should she change her last name in her passport before even applying?
3. How long this process is? Is 2 months reasonable?

I really appreciate any pointers or feedback from people in similar situation. At this point I have so many legal doubts.

Regards,
marcin

I agree, nothing to worry at all. No need to change her name, but try and get an annotation on her passport re. marital status and spouse's name. You can go to consulate 1 day after the wedding. She'll get the visa within 1 day to 4 weeks, depending on country. Note that its for you to show your employment letter and paystubs though my husband got his H4 without showing any of these things.
