Has Chennai Consulate accepted AC-140 from anyone?

I indicated AOS in my I-140 and now that my I-140 is approved I am wondering if I should go with CP now. Has anyone had any experiences with AC-140 at Chennai Consulate? Did anyone apply for I-824 and go that route?

raghu, I824 route and AC140 are not the same process

You can apply for change to CP (I824), get it approved and then complete CP (normal process) through NVC/Chennai. I did it this way.

The AC140 would be, if you want to shortcircuit this and apply with your I140 approval and I824 reciept(since yours was approved for AOS), instead of waiting for NVC, etc. Chennai does not normally accept such cases (although they mention "in select cases") and this is where the "hardship" angle comes in. I have not heard of anyone being successful with this in Chennai, but I may be wrong and there is always a first time :-)

AC I-140 at the US Consulate General in Hong Kong

Does anyone have any idea of whether the US Consulate General in HK accepts AC I-140 cases without a receipt for I-824?

Thanks! How much time did I-824 approval take?

Thanks very much for the reply, Rajesh! How much time did the I-824 approval take? Which INS center was it in? I have heard some horror stories about I-824 approvals at INS and transit times at NVC.

Yes, when I called up Chennai Consulate they said they are not accepting I-140 approval + I824 receipt because of "work load".

Sufferer of NVC route

I tried the same way. My I140 was cleard in May 2001, I-824 was approved in Sept 2001, but after that INS messed up the file and it never got transferred to NVC. As of today, my company now filing for AC I-140. My packet III is ready for my signatures.

Rajc,
Congratulations...at last your employer agreed to file AC-140.

At least some progress is made in your case and Mumbai most probably accepts AC-140. Wish you all the best...

As mentioned to you, I filed AC-140 for chennai detailing all the difficulties in getting the case transfer from INS to NVC but chennai simply rejected based on work load.
My case has not reached NVC yet. Don\'t know what to do..My duplicate I-140 has not been approved yet. ND of that petition is Nov.28th 2001. Now, for the fresh I-140 petition, INS is processing January cases. Whenever, my employer or attorney calls INS, the standard reply is it might take another month to make a decision. I don\'t know what decision they will make...just that they have to reissue I-140.

Thoroughly frustated and deeply agonized, I think I am aging at the rate of 5 years from last year...one of the biggest mistakes in life is to file I-824.

thanks,
rajum
