Has anyone applied for an expedited passport recently? How long did it take?

Just wondering what recent experiences have been with expedited passport processing. I don't mean same day processing at a passport agency, but "regular" expedited processing at a post office or other passport acceptance facility, with overnight delivery. I know the official time window is 2-3 weeks, but think I have read of people getting it in less than a week. Is that true?

I do not have recent experience, but what you have heard sounds right. The expediting has 3 parts - mailing out, processing and mailing in, and for you to get the passport back in about a week, you need to take care of all 3. When you are at the post office, work out overnight shipping in and out as they may not "think" that expediting passport also implies expediting mailing.

routine service works just fine

My wife & daughter applied passports on 09/27, expedite service for my daughter's application and routine service for my wife's application.

My wife got her passport on 10/06, my daughter got her passport on 10/07.

Paying $60 for expedite service doesn't make a lot of sense to me now.

Applied 06/30, recvd 07/08 via expedite with overnight shipping.

If you aren't planning to travel, do not waste your money on expedite and overnight shipping.
