H4 Visa Security Background Check

My husband is planning to visit me in May on an H4 visa. He had a visa interview in Beijing, China but his case was pending for further security background check. The visa officer told him it would take 3-4 weeks, but now it's been 5 weeks we haven't heard anything. I am starting to get nervous. He was only given a fax number to the U.S. Embassy and there is no reply to his inquiry. We don't know how long it's going to take.

If anybody has similar experience with security background check, I would appreciate it if you could share your story and suggestions. Thanks.

My wife appeared for H-4 almost 4 months ago in Mumbai, India. She was told the same thing and we are still waiting to hear back from them. She has tried to enquire 3-4 times at the consulate, each time they say they are waiting to hear back from Washington DC; I am in US and have tried to contact Department of State and the FBI to see whats going on but have been unsuccessful to get any help.

Security Check Sucks!!!

I was a first-hand sufferer in this stupid security check fiasco. Do not believe what they say about 3-4 weeks. The clearance goes from Washington and the consulate has absolutely so control over the time it may take. Just pray that the queue in DC is not very long.

It took exactly 8 weeks for me [though the visa officer initially said 2-3 weeks ... and then the consulate people said 6 weeks]. My advice would to just relax now and focus on other things in the meantime. [My consulate was Dhaka, Bangladesh - not sure if that matters]

Nee Hao Hang123?

Security checks can take anywhere from 8 weeks to 11 months(I know one person who underwent this %^%*# and after 9 months got result back(Mumbai Consulate.). Let us hope you hear from them soon.

You are absolutely right - it does not depends on location.
