H4 to H1B VISA

I am getting my new H1B processed while I am on my H4 with valid visa till 2006, I want to go India and come back some time before next before may'2005 in the mean time if my H1B is approved should I have H1B visa stamped at consulate before I reenter US or can I come with my valid H4 visa

if u come back with h4 u cannot work as u will be in H4 status so get it stamped before return
