H4 to H1 stamping..

My wife is currently on an expired H4 with an already extended H4 and a H1B . I understand that she needs to leave the country to get H4 to H1B stamped. So, If we decide to get her stamped on H4, is that possible to do it in St.Loius, because now her status is changed to H1 from H4(once H1 is approved).
The reason for this is if she leaves the country, I am not sure if her H1 would be approved. If her H1 is not approved, can she reapply for H4 using the new approved H4?
 
U can stamp at St.Louis if u extend ur status (eg. H1 to H1) and not change status (eg. H4 to H1).

Do u mean to say that ur wife is on H4 now and u have applied for a new H4 and also a new H1?
 
Yes..Tha's True. I had applied a H4 extention initially and then a H1. Currently I have both the H4 & H1 for her..So can I get her stamped on H4 from St.Loius as she is currenlty on the H4 status..(though expired..) What would happen if she satrts a job? CAn she get a H4 stamping done here and later move on to H1..
 
The last visa ur wife got approved - shows her status.
I assume that ur wife got H4 approved first and then H1 got approved.
As ur wife got her H1 approved after H4 - she is in H1 status now.
If she does not work using her H1 - then u have to apply again for H1 to H4 transfer.
