H4 to H1 (Change of Status)

I am currently on H4 visa for the past 4 years and living in USA with my husband.

I have applied for H1B visa recently, It should get approved in October 2004.

My question is that, before I start working here, Do I need to go back to India (my home country) to get my passport stamped or Can I start working immidiately as soon as I receive my H1 approval and later get my passport stamped.

Once your H1B gets approved in the US effective from 1 October 2004 or later, and you receive the approval notice WITH the new I-94 card attached to it,obtain a Social Security Number(if you dont have one any already). Then you can start working. You do NOT need to go to India to get your passport stamped.

On the next visit out of USA, you have to go to the consulate office and get your H1B stamped in your passport.
