H4 to F1 - Change of Status - Can I travel??? (please help F1 gurus)

Hi,
I have filed for change of status from h4 to f1 as I am in the US and have enrolled for a one year MBA
Can i travel to Puerto Rico now?
Do i have to get the F1 stamping if I am in Puerto Rico?

I think that since my application would be pending for at least 3-4 months, i can be still on h4 while I am in Puerto Rico and can come back without stamping of f1

Please clarify

(PS - I dont want to get the F1 stamping done because of its non immigrant status)
