H4 stay for 6 year limit

Hi,
If a person comes on H4 and gets converted to H1, does the H4 stay gets counted for the 6 year limit? For ex: If the person comes on H4 in 1999 and gets converted to H1 in 2001 how long the person can stay till 2007 or 2005?

Upto 2005

Six year limit is for the combined duration of H and L visa. So your H4 period should be counted against the six year limit. This is just my interpretation, please check with a lawyer.
