H4 status if she gets SSN

Hi All,

Please clarify my doubts.... My wife is in H4 right now and also she got her EAD 2004 Dec. My question is If I try to get SSN using the EAD will she be out of H4 status.

As per my understanding once your wife start working using EAD(SSN), H4 status will be void, this is what my lawyer told me too.
if your wife is just getting SSN and not starts working on EAD, H4 will remain valid...

but few ppl mentioned that H4 remains valid even you start using EAD.....

better talk to you lawyer on this matter.....

Got the same advice from my Lawyer

Lastyear my wife's H4 was pending and she got the EAD approved so i asked my lawyer if she can use EAD just to get the SSN number so that i can file taxes and she told me that i could go ahead and that it wouldn't effect her H4 application
