H4 stamp H1 status : can I return from Canada ?

Hi,

I have to go to Canada to land as a PR , right now I have an H4 stamped
on my Passport but am working on legal H1 status . I heard that I could
go to canada not submit my I-94 and come back without requireing to
have a H1 stamped on my passport , can I do this ?
