H4 - J1 this year and J1- H1 next year

Can an IMG on H4 visa accept for 4 year Residency on J1 visa and after the first year, with the gained US clinical experience apply for H1 in next year [ pre-match, match or post-match] and switch from J1 - H1 to first or second year of residency. Is it legal and possible to do this. Please reply. Share your experiences.
 
J1 to H1

It's not possible to change from J1 to H1. Once you have started your residency on J1, you are already subject to the 2-year HRR, so there is no point in trying to change once you have started.
