HI,
i recently got married in India and my husband works in the US.
But, just after my visa was stamped with a H4, we applied for a divorce on mutual consent. Hence the visa is now cancelled.
I want to know whether this cancellation will cause any problems for me to acquire a US visa in future since I am professionally qualified too.
Please help me.
Thanks & regards.

Hi

Please help me here...

1. If a wife gets divorced here in US and is on H4...can she stay here even after divorce?

2. What happens to her status?

3. What kind of maintenance a husband has to give?

Thanks a lot

As far as my knowledge goes,

1. NO she cannot stay in the US after getting divorced as she is on a dependent visa.
2. I would guess she becomes 'out of status' immediately after divorce.
3. Maintenance? That has got nothing to do with immigration. The girl should find an attorney(specializing in divorce matters) and then claim 'alimony'. If it was a 'harrasment' case there are organizations in the US who offer help to such females.

Answer to Ashleys email: No I dont think it would cause problems to acquire a US visa in the future just because you got divorced and your visa got cancelled. You however might have probelms if you stay in the US after your visa got cancelled and start accumulating 'out of status' days.

All that I have said is based on what 'little' knowledge I have of US immigration laws.
