H4 - How to Get ITIN ?

Dear Gurus

I am on H4 , I am un-illigible to have SSN and I need to have ITIN to obtain a driving licence. Please advise steps to have a ITIN.

I dont think the ITIN will help you to get a DL.
Usually DMV will ask you for the social security card... not itin, and they will match it with your name in the computer...

Check the website of the DMV of the state you live in. Usually they know that one can't have an SSN so most likely, you can go to SSN office and ask them to give you a letter saying that you cant have SSN. Show that letter to DMV and ask for the proper procedure.
 
in our state alabama, we have to produce a social security denial letter where they mention that we are not elig for ssn cos of visa status.
i didnt need itin for my license.

You can get drivers lincese with TIN number. I'm in california on H4 and i got my license using TIN. Every state has its own rules, please check with your local DMV.
 
A peculiar problem

Hi,
I was on H1 and so I have an SSN but then i transfered to H4 .
Now when i applied for my driving license i cleared my written and behind the wheels exam.I was given a temporary driving permit valid for 2 months. However afte 2 months i received another temp permit valid for 4 months.
I called dmv and they asked for my papers again i faxed them all my documents my visa,I 94 etc . They said they would be sending it to Homeland security . Is this the normal procedure?
Is this because my I 94 is scheduled to expire in 2 months time?
Has anyone else faced this problem
