H4 --> H4 Relocation Request --> H1 --> H4 status?

Hi,

I was on a H4 visa and joined my husband in New york 9 months back. I was issued an I-94 valid for 3 years.

Two(2) months back my husband was deputed to another location in US for long term and we moved to this new place. My husband's company has filed relocation papers with INS, for my husband and me, requesting for work location change and asking for 3 more years extension from that date.

One(1) month back I applied for H4 to H1 transfer and my H1B was approved.

I came to know that usually relocation process takes 3 months. My question is if INS starts processing my H4 (relocation) request NOW and issues a new I-94 what happens to the approved H1B. Do they cancel my H1B and change my status to H4?.

How do I inform INS about this or what should I do?.

There was no need to file for your H-4 since they are not location(or employer) specific. I would send a letter cancelling the H-4.
