"I entered US on H4 in 2001 June,after 8 months I got my H1B petition approved & am working since then. Now Iam planning my trip to India in July 04.I will be applying for Visa stamping at Chennai Consulate.Can any one tell me the procedure for stamping.Do I need to get an appointment for interview or can I use the drop box.
Kindly let me know the dos & donts."



My H1b is expiring in Feb 2005,I will be applying for extension in OCT 2004. IAm planning to travel to India in Jul 2004 & apply for H1B stamping -NOW
1. Will there be a question about the delay in getting the
stamping &
2. Also will they give the H1B stamping valid only for another
7months.

1. No. There is no question of delay
2. They will give the H1 valid only for the duration of the H1. US consulate cannot give additional H1 without USCIS approval.
Beware, US consulates in India do not look kindly on H4 to h1 applicants. You should have immaculate documentation- W-2s, LCA copies, I129 copies, paystubs etc. apart from other required documents. Did you try to get an appointment using ttsvisas.com?

I have not yet fixed the appointment. Regd. Documents I have all that is required & will include the W2, I 129 & pay stubs.
On the other hand will it help if I might as well wait a few more months, postpone my trip, get the H1b extension for the next three years & then travel to India.
Do you think it is a step closer towards getting the stamping or else does it not matter at all and will still be difficult to get the stamping?
