My wife entered the US on an H-4 and then started working on an H-1. Can she get her H-1 visa stamped on her passport through the State Department's St. Louis revalidation center? The State Department's website doesn't specifically state that H-4 and H-1 are of different categories.

This is the most ridiculous suggestion I have heard from such a senior member of this forum. Jaxen, I think you need some help...
Please abstain from making such general statments.. these kind of statements cause undue panic....
There is no harm in going to your home country and getting your wifes visa stamped if your wife has a strong background and her companies profile is strong enough. If its a body shop then you might have to be cautious about going to India.
My wife got her H4 to H1 stamped from Mumbai consulate last month (march) ... the guy at the consulate knew about her company so it was easy for her. I know of several other cases h4 to h1 cases, some have gotten their visas stamped in Canada aswell.
There is no point of hinding inside the US.
