H4 fees by attorney

I am going to be on H1 for fellowship. Hospital is paying the fees except for the PP fees.

My wife will be on H4. Hospital attorney is charging me about $600 for the H4 as they are not covered by the hospital.

is this usual? I thought all they have to do is add my wife's name on the application form.

yes thats another to suck money out of us....well u csn just send a form 539 by urself....its simple to fill. i did it twice for my wife...f1 to j2 and h4 extn.

Here is something you can try with your employer. Since he's going to sign your H1-B petition, ask them to get whole application from the lawyer and you/they mail it directly to CIS. In doing so, you can include your wife's H4 in it which is a straight forward form.
