I came to the u.s on May 24,2002 on a H4 visa and then got an admission to a school for my ph.d, my admission letter (with assistanship) is dated June 3, 2002 and my I-20 is dated June 7,2002.
I applied for change of status (from H4 to F1-status) within 30 days, in fact the INS receipt date is June 14 th and the notice date is July 9, 2002. I have got my change of status and since then am studying in F1 status
1. Is there a rule that i should not apply for a change of status within 30 days of my arrival in the U.S?
2. Now i am planning to go to canada to get my F1 visa stamped on my passport as i am planning to go for a vacation to India, Will my applying for change of status from H4 to F1 within the 30 days have any problems in my applying for a F1 visa stamp in canada / home country.
Please reply at the earliest as i have to decide.
Thanks
