H4 extension application stuck at the consulate

Greetings,

My wife and I applied for our H4 and H1B visa extensions simultaneously in Ankara, Turkey in mid-March. Mine was approved right away, but surprisingly she got stuck. People at the consulate say they are exchanging emails with the US (they wouldn't tell where/ what department) and we should know anytime! However. it has been almost a month, and we can't plan anything. She is enrolled in an MS degree program, and we don't know what's going to happen since we have NO idea how long it'll take before it's approved (hopefully it will, anyway...)

I have heard numbers in the order of like 5 MONTHS, so we are getting a tiny bit nervous!..

- Anybody has been in a similar situation?
- Where do you suggest I contact here to speed things up? Dept of State, DHS, BCIS, emailing to senators?!? Would any of these help?..

I appreciate any ideas...

Consulate can be brutal in cases like this. My wife's H4 got stuck in Delhi and I never got a response from them. Consulate never sent my information to BCIS or DOH. You may want to hire a lawyer to follow the case and Senator's letter is a really good option. I didn't try a Senator as I have switched my H1 to another employer and will try for my wife's H4 soon.

Good luck

Actually, we called the consulate several times on the phone and they tell us that they are exchanging emails with "US" -looks like we are one step colser to finding out what's going on  They just wouldn't tell where...

Hope your case works out favorably soon.

Any other ideas?...

Hello,

Looks like I am in the same position. My wife appeared for H-4 almost 4 months back and they told her they need to verify some information with Washington DC. Since then she has tried to get in touch with them quite a few times, but each time she gets the same answer.

Regards,

Actually, it may be possible to speed things up from here. I have just finished writing to my senators and the congresswomen. I suggest that you take time to put together a letter and send it to them. Who knows, it might help...

Good luck.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I have written to the senator long back. Have been trying to get help from the congressman's office also. But have been unsuccessful.

I just get an idea, that her case is delayed for no reason.

Good Luck for your visa.
