H4 expired >6 months back

Hey guys,
Please give me any advice or similar experiences.
My H4 expired in Nov 06. My husband's H1 was renewed and unfortunately H4 was not renewed due to unawareness. The extension was filed in Aug 07. Please tell me if anyone has been in a similar situation and what the outcome was. Lawyer recieved the receipt notification on 15 Aug, not heard anything since.
Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

ask your lawyer about Nunc pro Tunc. It has been used to get people in your ituation back into status.

I am wondering how long it might take for us to get an answer from USCIS.

Usually it will take 4 to 5 months.

Which Serice center did you sent ?

I did the same thing and i got approval from california service center . But they didn't give for earlier period( 1yr).
expired on Nov 06
applied July 07
got approval in Nov from Nov 07 to Nov 09.
