Hi

I m getting married in March. I have few questions.

Marriage registration
------------------------------
1) How long does it take to get a marriage registration cert.(after tradional hindu marriage)? I heard it takes 2-3 days. Is there a way to get it in a day ?

Passport

2) Is it necessary to get spouse' s last name changed in her existing passport ?

3)Also, Is it necessary to add my name as her spouse for the purposes of H4 stamping ? And add her as my spouse in my passport . Or is it just a "good to have" thing ? [For the purposes of H4 stamping]

4) How long does this changes in passport take? Any way to expedite the process ?

5 )I already have my current H1 stamped. When we take appointment for personal appearnce at delhi consulate for my wife, Can I also accompnay her inside the consulate ?

6) How long is it taking now a days to get H4 stamped @ delhi ? Any ideas ?

7) what questions can they ask in the interview ?

A: I got mine the next day. It depends... when in india think like an Indian.... "Sabse Bada Rupaiya... ". Well I didnt have to do that but $$ can help you get your registration cert the same day..

A: No, Its not necessary to get the spouses last name changed before going for the visa interview. ...
But be prepared to show them the marriage photographs and the Marriage Certificates.

3)Also, Is it necessary to add my name as her spouse for the purposes of H4 stamping ? And add her as my spouse in my passport . Or is it just a "good to have" thing ? [For the purposes of H4 stamping]

A: Not required at all...

A: No you cannot accompany your spouse inside the consulate.

5)How long is it taking now a days to get H4 stamped @ delhi ? Any ideas ?

A: I have no clue about this... Try reading some threads on this site

6) What questions can they ask.

A:
When did you get married.
Where did you get married.
What does your husband do.
Was it an arranged marriage.
Did you parents attend the marriage.

The will probably ask for the marriage certificate and some photographs if you already have not attached them with the App.

Original 797 is also required.

In India it depends on who you know and what you are willing to do ...

I do not think they change names anymore. It is a new p/p altogether.
Also, if you apply for new p/p, beware of applying in the "tatkal" (2 odd wks). The RPO might not issue an PCC if you need one in the future. Confirm with RPO

Hi,

I am in the same situation as the gentleman (joyous123) who asked the question.

Can you tell me what will be the process of name/passport change? One of my friends wife's visa was rejected because she did not have the husbands name and her name was also not changed.

Suppose, I have to change the name, then when I apply for the online interview, I have to send the passport copies of my wife and myself with other documents. Now, this would be the name of my wife before marriage, so when I actually go for the interview(my H1 visa is also to be stamped), if her passport has the name changed, will that be a problem? How can I work around this? I will be applying in Mumbai consulate.
