H1B Vs EAD

Hi Guru,

Right now I am in 7th year H1B extension valid till March 2006. Applied my I485/EAD/AP in December 2004. Struck with name check. Having EAD and valid till Feb 2006. Any time layoff can happen.

My question is:
Which one I should renew. (ie H1B or EAD) ?
What are the advantage and disadvantage ?

I'd say both. As far as EAD is concerned, you can do multiple jobs, move to another company without filing visa. But you can not use it for traveling purpose ( you need to apply for AP for travel purposes). Also file H1B extension. This is just for being safe. If for some reason ( hope not) your AOS is denied, you will not be out of status and can continue to stay/work on H1B.

One advantage with H1-B is that as long as you have applied for renewel prior to the expiration of the current H1-B you can be on H1-B even if you have not got the approval. That is not the case with EAD. However if you don't get EAD in 90days you can get a temporary EAD. But you can save a trip to the office to get temp. EAD.

Getting both renewed, if possible, is always better.
 
Is H1-B valid after 6 years time, if I485 is denied ?

Can I work on H1-B 8th year if 485 is denied (which is the basis on which you got 8th year extension) till its expiry date ?
