After reading and browsing through tons and tons of articles on H1B Stamping I have some questions which have come up. First, This is a great website and extremely helpful! keep up the good work.
I will start with my background and then proceed to my questions.
I came to USA in 2000 on a F1 visa (having previously visited US and Canada in 1995) to start my Ugrad (Fall 2000) at a US University. I graduated with a BS in EE this May (2004) and started working for an American Company as an Associate Electrical Engineer on May 17, 2004. MY H1B was applied and the receipt letter says July 14, 2004. My I-797 has not been approved yet (Nebraska is processing June 4 as of Oct 6). I have scheduled an Appointment at the US embassy in Toronto for Nov 23, 2004 (banking on the fact that my I-797 should come back by then) and once I receive it I will get my Canadian Visa.
My questions:
1) Am I in trouble for scheduling an appointment at the US Embassy without having my I-797 in hand?
2) Should I go to bombay and get it stamped or is it ok to do it in Canada?
3) Is it more difficult to get an H1 since I dont have a Masters Degree?
4) I know where the US Consulate is, are there any "cheaper" hotels around? and what about transportation to-and-fro from the consulate? (8:30 AM, app)
5) what is TAL? do I fall under it?
6) anyone got a stamping done recently? do they give the passport back the same day (I know it usually takes one day, but just wondering!)
I cant think of any more questions but any other piece of advice would be really helpful. I am a little paranoid and sorry about that
Thanks!
Neil
