I was about to schedule my H1B visa stamping interview in India when I noticed that my name is printed incorrectly on my passport: Both the first name and last name are printed in the 'Surname' field and the 'Given Name' field is blank. The US consulate has clearly mentioned on their website that if this is the case, then the visa will be issued with the entire name in the 'Last Name' field and the first name will be 'FNU'.

I have two options:

1. Correct the passport in which case a new passport will be issued which will have a new passport number.

My question is : Will having a new passport affect my green card process in a negative manner considering that my labor,140, 485 are already applied for...

2. Go for visa stamping with the old passport and have 'FNU' as my first name in the visa. I already have a valid USA DL, SSN etc.

My question is : Which of the options is a better option?
