Hi,

I have applied for my H1B this year and have received my reciept number. Is the reciept number enough for setting up an appointment or should I wait for the approval. Since the appointments calender is already in december I need to know this asap. Please Help!

Thanks
Bhavya.

Hi Bhavya,
EAC number (petition reciept number) is more than enough to book an appointment date.

Please go ahead and purchace the HDFC DD for Rs 4881 and it will get activated in 2 days time. After that login to http://vfs-usa.co.in and book an appointment date. It will ask u to enter the DD number and EAC number along with your personal details as on the passport. You will need to fill the DS-156 form and DS-157 forms during this process. Please note that you will be asked for the petition expiry date for which please enter 30-Sept-2009. Also u will be asked for the contact person name and address with whom u will stay in US. this info u can get from your employer.

One more thing that it asks **how long will you stay in US**. For this enter 3 years (this is time till ur H1 is valid).

After filling these 2 forms you will see 3 pdf files generated. 156, 157 and the interview letter. These forms can be edited any day you want and how many times you want upto 5 PM before the interview date.

Also you will get a date on 21 or 22 Dec as of today. This also you can reschedule to an earlier date. But this can be done only once. Suppose you get a date on 22 Dec and then after checking daily u find a slot available on 20 Sept. You can reschedule it to 20 Sept without cancelling the appointment. But one more modification after this will need a cancellation and rebook.

Modification of forms can be done using Retrieve/modify option in **Apply for Immigrant Visa** link and date reschedule can be done using the **Modify/Reschedule appointment** link.

All the best for your future. Hope my info is helpful to you.

Let me know what happened.
