H1B Visa in Halifax

Dear all,

Halifax is the only available spot I could get for next week - so I am going there. But do have a couple of quick questions

1) I am currently living and working in US but just got the Canadian Permanent Resident Card and want to apply in Canada so that I could get multiple entries in 3 years - so the questions are
- on DS156 form on the home of residence, should I write down US address or Canada address? If I write down the US address, how could the visa officer recognize that I am a Canadian PR?
- If write the address of Canada (in toronto), would they send me to TORONTO consulate instead as they only deal cases in their districts or state-side revalidations?

2) visa processing time: on the website, it is said that the processing time in Halifax is 1 business day - the fastest among all in Canada consulates - but I also saw previous threads saying it takes 4 business days. Can anyone who recently went to Halifax share the experience?

I am preparing the docs now for my upcoming Halifax trip, so really appreciate your help!

Thank you so much!!
Tina

First i would like to inform that for 3 year multiple entry visa you need not go to Canada, you can get that from your home country as well. Moreover, your Canadian PR status has no relevance for obtaining an U.S. visa. However, it can serve as a reason why you are getting the above visa stamped in Canada.

Now for your questions:
1. You have to write the U.S. address if you are living and working in U.S. The consular jurisdiction does not apply in your case and you are eligible for stamping at any consulate located in Canada.
2. I think, making travel plan with the assumption of 1 business day processing time is too risky.

One day to get your visa stumped

I and my family were there about 6 month ago, we did a 10th year H1-B renewal the consulate is a very small office in a high rise building.
Even if you wanted the place can not accommodate more then 15 people at a time, so if they will see about 100 people a day you still have a very got shot of getting your visa stumped by the next day.
Our visa was ready at 2:30 the next day and it all went fine, just make sure you have all and I mean all of you paperwork with you, birth Cert. Wedding Cert. and etc.
Good Luck
