H1B to F1

I am currently employed and on an H-1B visa and will be going to school in the fall.

Does anyone know when is the earliest I can quit my job and still ensure a successful visa transfer. I assume I have to be employed when I apply for the F-1 visa, however I am not certain how long I need to stay with my company after having applied for the F-1 visa.

I would appreciate your advice.

u shld be fine

i applied for change of status from H1 to F1 in sept 2000 (2 weeks after i quit my job, but my H1 was not cancelled as i was working from home for them)
i think you can quit ur job once you apply for change of status.
