H1B Stamping - Canada

Hi All, I've a few questions about my H1B extension / stamping...

(1) My H1B expires Sept 30 '09 and I've started filling out paperwork for renewal. I'm considering going to Canada (Calgary or Toronto) to get it stamped. Do any of you foresee any problems / delays with the process once I'm there? How long does it typically take for them to stamp and return my passport?

(2) I've heard a fair amount about a Technology Alert List. Will the fact that I'm a Biomedical Engineer provoke additional security checks? I'd appreciate any info.

(3) Can I go to Canada to get my new visa stamped before the actual date of expiration on my old visa?

Thanks for any help. I greatly appreciate it.

You may check the answer to 1 on consulate website. It varies for consulates.
For the second, you can find this list by doing google search.

On the last one, you can apply only x days (usually 10 days) before the actual start date on your new 797.

best.

And also remember that you will have 1 year after current H1B expration to get visa stamped in the passport provided you got H1B renewal copy handy. You don't need to get it stamped immediately unless you travel out of country after H1B expiration.
