H1B Stamping appt. thro' VFS

Dear all,

My H1B (I-797) and my passport are expiring in OCT. I have already applied for H1B exptension. I am planning to visit India in Dec. and get the passport stamped based on the new H1B approval that is expected in 2 months.

Here are the questions.

1. While taking the appt. thro' VFS site, can use the current I-797 information to fill the form (which is expiring shortly)?

2. If i provide my current passport information to shedule the appt. will it be OK, when i try to stamp using my new passport?

3. I guess, I will have the old and new passports in my hand at that time, Is this correct?

4. Will the passport numbers in both be same?

Best thing for you is go to the nearest Indian Consulate and get the new passport renewed in one day, then get the HDFC receipt using new passport and get the appoitment through vfs.
 
a new pp has to be issued; but I did not know it is done in one day only.

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention one thing. I already took the HDFC receipt using my current passport. Can i update the HDFC receipt with the new passport? So that i can take the appt. based on the new passport.

Send an email to VFS people. I think they would be reasonable and accept your receipt with the old passport. If you don't get response the first time, send email again.

Check FAQ at VFS, they have answer for this. I think they update new passport info in the HDFC receipt and then you need to take both old and new passport and hdfc receipt to the interview.
