Hello all.

My passport is with DC for revalidation process ( h1b ). Also due to my work nature ( consulting ) if i get a job very far away from where i work which requires a air travel.

The question is..

can you fly without having passport in your hand ( Us domestic travel )

Thanks - BM

Legally. you are supposed to carry your passport and your visa approval with you all the time.

As Per the law any alien needs to carry "HIS" immigration documents I94 and passport with "HIM" at all times. during the stay in the united states.Else the penalty is 100$ fine or upto 30 days in jail for the first offense.
Not sure if this law is applicable for women .

Highly unlikely that you will be asked for your passport during domestic travel in the US. That's like getting a ticket for Jay Walking - it's possible, but highly unlikely.

It is very very unlikely. But in some cases it is better to be safe then sorry.

At least having the copies of PP/H1/I94 should be a must.

I have been in this situation when I sent my PP for revalidation.
When the officer asked me for my passport I told him that I have sent it for revalidation and gave my lawyers telephone number. I was allowed to travel.

PS
I never carry my PP with me only a copy of my visa page and I-94.

HTH

Carry the printout of FedEx delivery, FedEx receipt, photocopy of passport pages, copy of I-94 and copy of approval notice. Also keep one more form of identification. There will not be any issue.
